One of the joys of working in journalism is that no two days are the same with industry changes keeping Liverpool ECHO journalists on their toes. Since we first hit the streets in 1879 we’ve been championing what is now known as the Liverpool city region, celebrating its remarkable people and campaigning on their behalf.

The way readers consume their news has changed considerably - from our newspaper to TikTok and everything in between. But, whatever the platform, we are proud and privileged to tell your stories and never take for granted the fact we are your trusted source for news and sport.

We know what you like and what you don’t like, because you tell us - sometimes in a very robust way and that’s the way it should be. Listening to you means we learn how to serve you better. And, one of the issues you’ve raised is around the performance of our website.

Advertising is important to us. We need it to pay our journalists and to keep our website free. But it’s also important to us that you enjoy visiting us - and that your experience of reading our pages is smooth and easy.

We always want to innovate. And that's why we're excited to tell you about how our app is evolving. We have launched ECHO Premium which allows you to support our journalism and get the best user experience we can provide.

The updated app is the best way to experience our journalism with no adverts*, pop-ups or distractions. Just brilliant storytelling. You will be able to read 25 articles a week free on the ECHO app and 10 on the LFC app. Our website will remain free because it is important to us that financial hardship should not prevent anyone from accessing news.

ECHO Premium is available on iOS and Android.

We have thought long and hard about asking you to pay for our work. But that’s the way that we can bring you more of what you like. We’ll never stop bringing you the breaking news which makes us your first port of call when you want to know what’s happening on your doorstep. And we’ll never stop fighting for a better deal for the people of the Liverpool City Region from Westminster to our town halls.

Thousands of you have already downloaded our app from the app store and the data tells us what you like to see. We’re sure you’ll like the new, Premium version even more.

You will get:

  • An advert-free* experience of all the stories you want to read

  • ECHO Essential - a weekly curation of some of our best content

  • The News Digest giving you everything you need to know in a quick and concise way - updated at 7am and midday

  • Five puzzles a day just for subscribers including sudoku and crosswords
